Mayor opened the meeting by recognizing longtime resident and veteran Joe Miller as Herriman’s 2026 parade grand marshal. City staff described Miller’s life in Herriman, his graduation from Bingham High School in 1965, enlistment in 1966, service as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne in Vietnam and the two Bronze Stars he earned for heroism and meritorious service.
Staff said Miller used the GI Bill to continue his education and has remained active in community life; council members thanked him for his service and invited Miller and his wife to a photo with the council. "It's our honor to recognize Joe Miller as our 2026 parade grand marshal for his honorable military service, his lifelong connection to Herriman, and his commitment to family, community, and country," staff said during the presentation.
The recognition required no formal council action; it was presented as part of the meeting's recognitions and concluded with a group photograph.
