Captain Jamal Ellis, who identified himself as the leader of the Salvation Army for Central Georgia, introduced himself as newly assigned to Milledgeville and described organizational changes that will fold the local thrift store and social‑service work into a Central Georgia structure. "As of the end of September, September 2026, we will be fully integrated as the Salvation Army of Central Georgia under the leadership of my wife and I," Ellis said, and invited council representatives to an announcement on Sept. 21 at Mercer University.
Ellis said the integration will include cosmetic improvements to the thrift store at 461 East Hancock, additional staff to keep merchandise rotating, and streamlined social‑service referrals using SAhelp (salvationarmyhelp.org) so residents can find services by ZIP code. The council heard the introduction during public comment; no council action was taken during the meeting.
