Planning board schedules March 26 public hearing for proposed Main Street dance studio

The Planning Board of the Village of Cold Spring scheduled a public hearing for March 26 on an application to reopen a dance studio at a brick Main Street building that previously housed dance classes. The applicants told the board, "We're opening a dance studio on Main Street," and said they will offer ballroom, Latin and social dancing as well as ballet and contemporary classes for adults and children.

Board members asked for additional documentation before the hearing, including interior photos, an exterior/site plan showing entrances, exits and parking, and confirmation of any historic‑district signage approvals. The applicant said hours of operation would be roughly midday to evening: "Hours of operation, we intend to be from 12 to 9PM, Monday through Friday." The board advised that painted window signage likely would not require additional approval but that any substantial exterior sign must receive Historic District Review Board sign approval; the board said it would make any approval conditional on that review. The board asked applicants to provide requested materials to staff (Abigail) at least one week before the hearing so members can review them in advance.

If approved after the public hearing, the change of use would return the space to dance instruction; the applicants said the studio previously housed dance classes for about 15 years and they expect some current students to follow them to the new independent studio. The board recorded a motion to schedule the hearing and voted in favor.
