Residents push for faster completion of Underground Railroad signage and improved pier access

He also requested more benches and trash receptacles on Washington Street Pier. Later, Chris Wedel pressed staff about the Underground Railroad signage project announced over two years ago; he said posts are in place but lack literature and asked the Commission to press staff for completion. "It's been well over 2 years since this project was announced in the city," Wedel said.
Barbara Clark thanked the Commission for the drunk-driving resolution and urged comparable attention to drug-impaired driving; the police chief responded that the national enforcement blitz addresses operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and acknowledged drug-related OVI numbers have increased locally. Staff indicated follow-up would be done on pier access, signage, and maintenance requests.
