Commission renames Shoreline Park to honor local war hero Leonard J. Tom

The Sandusky City Commission voted on Aug. 10 to rename Shoreline Park as Leonard J. Tom Shoreline Park to honor the late local veteran and native son.
Commissioners expressed strong support during discussion, with the chair acknowledging John Lippis, who brought the proposal forward, and commissioners praising Leonard J. Tom's lifetime of service. "I, Greg Peugeot, vice president of the Sandusky City Commission, do hereby proclaim and announce August 19 through 09/07/2026 as drive sober or get pulled over," the vice president had said earlier; during the renaming discussion commissioners similarly voiced appreciation for Leonard J. Tom's service and local ties.
The resolution was moved, seconded and approved on a roll call, and the Commission said it will coordinate next steps for signage and implementation of the renaming.
