Utica approves DPW labor contract and appoints parks commissioner; officer sworn in
Summary
Council authorized the DPW collective bargaining agreement with the GELC for 07/01/2026–06/30/2030, appointed Karen Okonowski to the Parks and Recreation Commission, and administered the oath of office to Officer Jacob Mason; Chief Kaluzny also presented awards to officers Smale and Colon.
The City Council on July 14 authorized Mayor Calandrino to sign the collective bargaining agreement between the City of Utica and the GELC covering July 1, 2026–June 30, 2030. The motion (Dionne/Terenzi) passed by roll call with all members present voting aye.
The council also appointed Karen Okonowski to the City of Utica Parks and Recreation Commission (motion Dionne/Terenzi). During opening items, Chief Matthew Kaluzny introduced Officer Jacob Mason and Mayor Calandrino administered the oath of office; Gabrielle Mason pinned his badge. Chief Kaluzny presented a Chief’s Merit Award to Officer Smale and read a letter of commendation from Sterling Heights Chief Andrew Satterfield recognizing Officer Colon for translation assistance during a Sterling Heights traffic stop.
