Fire staff said the new hose will replace equipment that has been in service for decades, the grant covers most of the cost, and McQueen was the low and trusted bidder. The fire chief said the age and liability of pressurized hose motivated the decision to destroy the old hose rather than attempt resale. Council approved each item by roll-call vote.
The fire department said the mobilized software has been used 8–10 years and helps document inspections with photos and signatures. The purchase and disposal approvals were recorded as budgeted expenditures or grant-funded actions, with the city's share already accounted for in the department's budget.
