Utica approves state-funded FARO system, laptop and 16 patrol rifles; AED purchase also OK'd

The Utica City Council approved several police equipment purchases July 14.
Chief Matthew Kaluzny reported the Police Department received a State of Michigan LEO grant (E20260017) that will fund a FARO laser system (not to exceed $60,000) and a Dell Pro Max 16 Plus laptop (not to exceed $8,600). Council approved both purchases with funding designated to GL#101-301-981-000-LEOP26. Later in the meeting, Council approved 16 CMMG patrol-rifle packages and four department-owned pool-rifle packages from CMP Distributors in an amount not to exceed $22,500, and authorized the department to establish payroll-deduction repayment procedures for officer-purchased packages. Council also approved purchase of two re‑certified LIFEPAK 1000 AEDs and related maintenance (not to exceed $4,200) and amended the FY2027 equipment purchase appropriation accordingly.
Minutes record each motion passing by roll call with "all ayes." No public speakers objected during the approvals.
