Mission CISD board approves revised mission statement, adopts new slogan

The Mission Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees approved a revised district mission statement, updated core values and a new slogan on Dec. 18, 2024, after a stakeholder review process. The revision — presented to the board by Principal Araceli Escalona and overseen by Director Dr. Sharon Roberts and Interim Superintendent Dr. Cris Valdez — passed on a 6-0 vote.
Araceli Escalona described the stakeholder process that produced the one-page proposal and said the intent was to keep the mission concise and memorable. "Last week we presented a revision of the Mission Statement after your input and your feedback," Escalona said. The proposal frames the district’s purpose and lists core values: Excellence, Integrity, Responsibility, Collaboration, and Innovation. The board also approved the slogan "Their Future, Our Mission" as the district’s marketing line.
Board Vice President Jerry Zamora moved for approval and Veronica "Betty" R. Mendoza seconded; the motion passed unanimously. Dr. Valdez told trustees the revised wording will be used across day-to-day operations and will align with ongoing strategic planning efforts. The change replaces the prior longer statements with a single, stakeholder-vetted line intended for easier internal and public use.
