Utica City Council voted to approve USA Tire's request for a temporary 20-by-40 tent to host an auction at 7551 Auburn Road on Sept. 26, subject to inspections by the city's fire, police and building departments.
Rick Michelon, identified in the public-record correspondence as the owner of USA Tire, described the event as a repeat of a June auction and said the tent would have no electrical service and that "It's a 6 hour event" and organizers expect roughly 100 bidders. The council noted prior inspections had been conducted and approved the permit by roll-call vote, with the approval conditioned on standard department sign-offs and the applicant's insurance documentation.
The clerk read a letter dated Aug. 3 from David Fisher expressing community support for the business and asking the city to consider waiving the permit fee or promoting the event. Mayor Calandrino and the chiefs present confirmed that fire and building would inspect the temporary use before it opened to the public.
