The Sonora ISD Board approved updates to the district pay plans for 2026–27 that add an extra $500 stipend for employees with 21 or more years of service. Superintendent Michael Kissire told the board that "the only changes to the compensation plan was to add an additional $500 for employees who have worked 21+ years." Trustee Brenda Mungia moved to approve the pay plans and Trustee Tai Araujo seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
During a closed session under Government Code 551.074 for personnel matters, trustees considered personnel items and, upon reconvening, approved a motion by Trustee Colby Bates to update Katie Ruiz's job title to Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and Special Programs; Trustee Brenda Mungia seconded and the vote was unanimous. No salary or contract terms related to the promotion were recorded in the public minutes.
