The Kenosha County Legislative Committee voted Feb. 18 to approve a resolution opposing proposed federal rulemaking related to wireless deployments, saying the county should retain authority over tower siting.
Supervisor John Morrissey presented the resolution. Supervisor Mark Nordigan argued that supporting the resolution means the county must rethink tower placement and said "local control is better and would like local authority regarding the tower placement." Supervisor Erin Decker asked that if the resolution passes the full board the Clerk send it to the Wisconsin Counties Association (WCA) and other counties for discussion.
Public comment at the start of the meeting included Dave Station telling the committee he was "here in support of Morrissey’s resolution to stop cell phone towers," and Cheryl Turner raising "concerns regarding property value with new cell phone towers." The speakers connected their remarks to the wireless deployment item on the agenda.
The committee approved the resolution on a motion by Supervisor Morrissey, seconded by Supervisor Sarah Kirby; the record shows an "All Aye" vote. The resolution will be forwarded to the full County Board and, per Supervisor Decker’s suggestion, shared with WCA and other counties for wider discussion.
