County opposes National Guard's proposed scientific review of machine-gun range in Upper Cape water reserve

Commissioner Sheila Bergstrom moved that the board oppose the National Guard's proposed National Academy scientific review of a proposed machine-gun range on the Upper Cape water-supply reserve and the board voted unanimously to record that opposition. "I move that the board oppose the...scientific review...of the National Guard's proposed machine gun range on the Upper Cape water supply reserve," Bergstrom said when introducing the motion.
Commissioners said the EPA and the county health department have reviewed potential environmental and public-health impacts and recommended caution, and some commissioners questioned the objectivity and value of an additional review funded by the Guard. Commissioner Lyons said she was opposed to using review funds to "change people's minds," and the board recorded unanimous "aye" votes.
