County to hold public hearing after DPU notice on Bourne and Sagamore bridge grade crossings

County Administrator Michael Dutton told commissioners that MassDOT, the U.S. Army Corps and the Department of Public Utilities notified the county that four existing grade crossings near the Bourne and Sagamore bridge projects will be altered, and that two crossings fall under the county's purview and require a public hearing under Mass. Gen. Laws c.160, s.147.
Public commenters asked for robust notice, an in-person hearing option, and direct contact points at DPU and MassDOT. "Any public hearing should be well publicized in advance with specific correspondence directed to the town officers of the host community," urged John York, who has followed Canal transport issues for decades. Commissioner Lyons made a motion authorizing the county administrator to engage DPU and plan a public hearing with outreach to Bourne officials; the board approved the motion unanimously.
