Cape & Islands license-plate fund opens $125,000 round; applications due Sept. 25

Erin Perry, deputy director at the Cape Cod Commission, told Barnstable County commissioners that the county will issue a request for proposals for a new round of license-plate grants funded by the Cape & Islands specialty plates. "The total funds allocated for this grant round are a $125,000," Perry said, and the maximum award per project will be $25,000; projects must be completed within a year of award.
Perry said eligible applicants include local and regional governments and nonprofit organizations; applications will be due Sept. 25 and the Barnstable County Economic Development Council will forward recommendations for awards in October-November 2026. The commission noted that revenues to the fund have declined in recent years and said staff will operate conservatively to ensure adequate funds for the round.
