An agency official reported that several social‑services staff attended the annual Social Services Institute in Hickory to receive training from other counties and the DSS Directors Association. "Last week, several of my staff... we annually, we have what's called Social Services Institute. It's a big conference in Hickory that our DSS Director Association puts on. So we sent several staff up there to learn some new things from some of the other, counties," the official said.
The official also said the department is working to secure funding for a level‑3 group‑home renovation and is anticipating an award letter from the state that would allow the project to proceed. The project is described as a partnership with Cabarrus and AYN; staff said the award letter may arrive in the next week or so and, if received, would enable completion of the renovation.
