The Milton-Freewater City Council voted unanimously on June 27 to continue with Jensen Strategies, LLC to conduct recruitment for the Public Works Superintendent. Human Resource Officer Wendi Daugherty introduced Amelia Wallace of Jensen Strategies, who outlined a timeline with an application deadline of Sept. 8 and semifinalist notifications planned for the week of Sept. 14; finalists would be advanced for in-person interviews.
Councillors asked about council involvement in the hiring process and legal questions about hiring authority during an interim period. Wallace said the firm would provide a semifinalist shortlist and recommended semifinal interviews typically be conducted remotely. "No, council does not review applications or participate," Wallace said, describing the council-manager form of government practice for department-head hiring; she advised consulting legal counsel about any limits during the interim manager period. Finance Director Laurie Bubar said the recruitment expense may require a budget adjustment.
