The Nederland Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the district’s Hazardous Route Plan 4–0 on July 28. Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Operations Bill Jardell described the plan and said it "includes Nederland Avenue and 27th street as being a major traffic artery per the definition from the Texas Education Agency," noting students cross those streets to reach school.
Trustee Micah Mosley moved to approve the plan and Trustee Jerry Albanese seconded; the motion carried with votes from Albanese, Mitchell, Mosley and President Nicholas Phillips. Jardell told the board that district transportation staff member Mr. Vollert is addressing the department’s needs to ensure compliance with State of Texas regulations. The minutes do not specify route changes, bus-stop relocations, or timelines for implementing any new crossing protections.
