Council adopts $325,000 contract to study aquifer storage and recovery

Public Works Engineering Technician Steven Patten told the council staff had chosen Summit Water Resources LLC to perform a Phase 1 Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) feasibility study under Contract 322. Patten detailed three main tasks in the professional services agreement: oversight and development of a test bore hole that could become a new city well, an ASR feasibility assessment, and preparation of an application for a state limited license. He said physical drilling would be contracted separately to reduce overhead.
Councilor Wes Koklich and other councilors asked about processing river water and timelines; Patten said the location for any processing facility would be determined after the yearlong study analyzed water quality and land needs and that the timeline in the proposal suggested about a year if the project proceeded as planned. The council adopted Resolution No. 2610 authorizing the agreement for $325,000; the motion passed unanimously.
