Board adopts revised Student Code of Conduct for 2025–2026

The Nederland Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously July 28 to adopt the revised Student Code of Conduct for 2025–2026. Superintendent Dr. Stuart Kieschnick said the revisions followed a board request at the prior meeting to change the language regarding the cell phone policy. "The District has worked closely with the attorney to reflect the law as closely as possible," Dr. Steven Beagle told trustees during the discussion.
Trustee Micah Mosley moved to approve the revised code, and Trustee Tonya Mitchell seconded. The minutes record that trustees Albanese, Mitchell, Mosley and President Nicholas Phillips voted in favor; the motion carried 4–0. During discussion Coach Scott Rich raised a practical implementation concern, saying the district app "works with text but will need to be changed to email accounts and use the intercom for emergent situations." Dr. Beagle also clarified that confiscated phones will not result in a fine under the revised policy.
