Commission approves budget amendments, school and county funds adjustments

Commissioners approved a set of budget amendments and fund transfers presented by the Budget Committee aimed at covering Helene recovery obligations and routine county needs.

The full commission accepted Budget Amendment #7 (County Fund, $417,620.85) and separate school and federal project amendments (General Purpose School Fund amendment totaling $1,040,096.24 and Federal Projects Fund $249,036.25). The motions included line‑item reallocations, equipment purchases, and appropriations from reserve accounts; the record lists amounts and accounting codes in the packet.

Finance Director Carolyn Watson told commissioners that the financial reports were "in the packet" and invited any member who had questions to call or email for explanation. The motion to approve multiple budget amendments carried by unanimous votes where noted.

Other approvals included payment to elected officials totaling $6,426.42 to correct a payroll calculation during an office transfer and authorization to pay Schaus LLC invoices as presented in the packet. Several budget adjustments recognized grants and donations for school programs and the Communities In Schools grant funding.

The approved amendments reallocated reserve funds and in several instances explicitly used no funds from the Unassigned Fund Balance. The county finance director and departments were directed to proceed with procurement and invoice processing under the revised budget allocations.
