After a closed-session that the Board said was held under Texas Government Code Sections 551.071 and 551.074 for attorney consultation and personnel deliberations, trustees reconvened in open session and voted to terminate the probationary contract of employee Belinda Lara, effective at the end of the 2024–2025 school year. Joel Frederick moved that "it is in the best interest of the district to terminate the probationary contract of Belinda Lara, effective at the end of the 2024-2025 school year," and the motion passed 7-0; the Board authorized the Superintendent to deliver written notice as required by law.
Belinda Lara had earlier addressed the Board during public comment in support of renewing her contract. The agenda showed the Board discussed the personnel matter in closed session under Texas Government Code Sections 551.071 (consultation with attorney) and 551.074 (personnel). The Board did not provide additional public detail about the grounds for termination during the open meeting.
