NISD honors students advancing to state Science & CTE competitions; NHS students cited for records and qualifiers
Summary
Nacogdoches ISD recognized state Science and CTE qualifiers from Nacogdoches High School and middle/high school bands and choirs earned first-division UIL sweepstakes. Interim Superintendent Myers also highlighted individual athletic and arts achievements.
The board publicly recognized Nacogdoches High School students who advanced to the state Science and Engineering Fair and CTE competitions. Les Linebarger introduced teacher Lindy Arbuckle and the list of state science qualifiers, which included Bryan Martinez, Irvin Cruz, Erick Gutierrez, Jacob Norman and others.
Shawn Lucena introduced Career & Technical Education qualifiers and competition placings (for example, Drone Exhibition — 3rd place; Crime Scene Investigation — tied for 1st). Interim Superintendent Dr. Darrell D. Myers also highlighted athletic achievements, noting that Micah Lockett cleared 7-feet, 1-inch in the high jump (a school record) and Christine Schick cleared 12 feet in the pole vault at the area meet. He noted that the Lady Dragons won the district meet — the first time in at least 25 years.
The recognitions featured teachers, advisors and campus staff connected to student success and are recorded in the meeting minutes as part of the celebrations and information items.
