Camas School District trustees review wide-ranging policy updates to align with state law

The Camas School District board convened Aug. 10 for a workshop focused on an extensive set of policy updates intended to align district rules with recent state legislation and model policy recommendations. Chair (S1) opened the meeting saying, "The funnest part of meetings, policy review," and led trustees through a checklist of changes affecting areas from student enrollment to employee leave.
Trustees noted several statutory and model-policy drivers for the revisions and requested clearer procedural language before final adoption. Among the items discussed were updates tied to House Bill 1170 (an AI reference added to the district27s electronic-resources policy), House Bill 2534 (changes to enrollment rules for students with a parent in the military and an amendment to RCW 28A.225.216), and House Bill 1795 (restrictions on restraints and expanded reporting). Several trustees asked staff to document which deletions were model (WASDA) changes and which were internal edits so the board could distinguish compliance-driven changes from local preferences.
