Caroline and Natalie Wozniak, eighth-grade co-presidents of the Best Buddies club, addressed the board during public comment about inclusion and student mental health. "Best buddies has been one of the most meaningful parts of our middle school experience," Caroline said, adding that the club is about "friendship, inclusion, and making sure that every student feels like they belong." The students also referred to a recent loss in the high-school community and urged continued attention to supports so that students "feel supported and know that they are not alone."
Their remarks drew appreciative responses from the chair and several board members, and the board acknowledged mental-health supports and programming as an ongoing priority. The board did not take formal action based on the comments but scheduled policy and program discussions in upcoming meetings that could shape supports going forward.
