County engineer presents transportation plan tied to Rebuild Alabama funds; commission to act by Aug. 31

County Engineer Campbell presented the F127 County Transportation Plan required under the Rebuild Alabama funding framework and explained why consultants recommended County Road 43 and County Road 92 as Phase 1 projects. He said the projects were selected because they have smaller environmental footprints and are likely to reach construction sooner. "We are required to have an approved plan by August 31," Campbell said while reviewing the schedule.

Campbell explained two parallel tracks: environmental diligence (wetlands, hazardous materials, cultural resources) and plan preparation for bidding; environmental review is expected to be the critical path. He described anticipated project scope (widening, rumble strips, ditch work and signage) and said the projects will be competitively bid in phases with federal exchange funds used as the county match. The commission will consider formal approval at an upcoming meeting to meet the August 31 deadline.
