Council adopts budget amendment to implement Head Start cost-of-living pay increase

The Lafourche Parish Council voted unanimously to adopt Ordinance No. 7099, which amends the 2026 operations and maintenance and capital budget and establishes pay changes for unclassified employees under Article 5 of the Lafourche Parish Home Rule Charter. Parish President Mitchell Ozeron said the ordinance implements a federal cost-of-living increase provided through the Head Start grant and asked the council to approve the pay adjustments at this meeting.
"This particular item... we accepted the resolution to accept the additional funding for the cost of living increase for our Head Start folks. That's what this ordinance is to put in place the actual pay increase," Ozeron said. The council took no amendment and approved the ordinance by voice vote, 9 yeas and 0 nays. Administration did not identify additional fiscal changes beyond those incorporated in the ordinance language presented to the council.
