Resident urges planning funds for Skibo Park after mine closure work
Summary
Resident Kelly Nestle asked the board to set aside or identify funds to complete final grading, road access and planning for Skibo Park following mine closure work, noting a $100,000 planning allocation was set aside on Nov. 23, 2023 and that planners are needed to apply for grants.

Resident Kelly Nestle urged the board to plan for post-closure work at Skibo Park, saying the town needs planning and cost estimates to pursue grants and make the site ready for park venues. Nestle said the first step after closure is creating a level piece of ground and road access, and that without planning estimates the town cannot submit credible grant applications.
Nestle told the board that $100,000 was set aside for planning on 11/23/2023 and urged officials to identify funding—either from reserves or other sources—to complete the grading and road work needed to make the park usable. She asked the board to "sit down and say, how can we obtain the money we would need to do the plans for this final grading and a road into the park?"
