Committee names senior center ramp top ADA capital priority; HUD grant to courtyard noted

Acting chair Bill told members the committee has three identified ADA capital priorities: the senior center ramp as top priority, the Gallagher/Gallaher Mansion elevator project as second, and improvements at the Benjamin/Ben Franklin Center as third. He said funding will be in the ADA capital budget on July 1 and that the senior center ramp drawings are being refined now.
Bill said HUD has provided a grant for the courtyard work and that "HUD has granted the senior center $72,000 to reconstruct the courtyard area." Because the HUD grant does not cover architectural fees, the city will cover the architect’s cost and staff plans to add ramp drawings to the courtyard architect’s scope to save money and time. The committee discussed the elevator as a separate, mechanically intensive project that should proceed when appropriate and noted that Rec and Parks staff (Ken Hughes) are expected to oversee Mansion work.
