Council members received several informational reports and approvals for upcoming special events that will affect downtown traffic and public services.
Public-safety committee reported approval of the JMFM 5K scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 15, and a back-to-school field day on Aug. 22 at Jackson Taylor Park. A performance tied to the 10,000 Maniacs arts festival will occur Sept. 4 from 3 to 8 p.m., and the Daniel Feather Memorial 5K is set for Sept. 5 from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., which will require closing Baker Street between Cityview and Bergman Entrance. The committee also approved two block parties: Stowe Street (Aug. 22, rain date Aug. 29) and Halleck between Royal and Fairmount (Sept. 6, 7:30–9:30 p.m.).
The mayor and council noted Jamestown will host 11 teams (including teams from Puerto Rico and Hawaii) for the Babe Ruth World Series, with many downtown activities and free public games expected over a 10-day period. Staff and council asked residents to welcome visitors and be aware of temporary downtown traffic impacts.
