County outlines asbestos inspections and abatement steps for acquired properties

Jeremy updated the committee on abandoned and nuisance properties the county assumed this year and said departments are now working from an integrated platform (iWORK) that lets building, zoning and health staff share data more easily. "We are now able to access, the data that we need between the departments, to continue to work on some of these nuisance issues," Jeremy said, crediting Jared Yator for helping create internal platforms.
Jeremy said he met with an environmental group to perform an on-site review this past Friday for two county-owned properties and that the next step is a full asbestos-abatement inspection. Once abatement estimates are in, the county will go out for bids to demo and greenfield the sites and then either solicit developers for housing (preferred) or, if necessary, auction properties to recoup costs. Jeremy said those cost estimates will inform budgeting in the coming months.
