Finance committee leadership told the council the committee advanced four resolutions to the voting session later, three related to public-safety grants and training and one to personnel.
The finance committee reported that James Johnson awarded a subaward to a New York State grant program that channels $20,000 to the police department for purchases listed by detectives. The committee chair said, "The grant funds will be used for the purchases of some technical equipment," and added that the grant would "fully fund the purchases" listed, with "no cost to the city."
Committee members also advanced two resolutions authorizing attendance at the 2026 public-safety symposium (Sept. 21–24 in Albany) for grant-funded participants and a leadership-certification program in Erie County for lieutenants and sergeants (courses Sept. 14–17 and Nov. 16–19). Finally, the committee recommended lifting a hiring freeze to allow hiring a traffic technician to replace a retiree; personnel funding was said to be included in the city's 2020 budget plan.
Committee discussion flagged that these items were reviewed in public-safety committee and would proceed to the full council for the formal vote.
