Michiana council adopts 2025–2026 budget after midyear adjustments

The Village of Michiana council voted 5–0 on June 13 to adopt the 2025–2026 budget following a separate vote to amend several 2024–2025 departmental lines. Council member Tim McCarthy moved to amend the general budget to cover overages in departments 215, 253, 265, 266, 290, 301 and 751 for a total of $52,660; the council approved the amendment and later adopted the new fiscal year budget.
McCarthy told the council the General Budget as a whole—including all departments—was under budget by $32,899 despite the departmental overages, and the Water Budget had an overage of $36,976.54 attributed to water usage. "The Water Budget was over $36,976.54 due to water usage," Mike Mumper reported while also announcing a follow-up water meeting with Merritt to push bid completion. The council voted to adopt the 2025–2026 budget with Mike Botelho seconding and the final tally recorded as five yes, zero no.
The council also approved routine financial items earlier in the meeting: the clerk presented a check register for $67,790.33 which passed on a motion by Mike Botelho and second by Brian Cassidy. The votes and motions were procedural and no further fiscal contingencies were raised at the meeting.
