Planning staff told the commission the village will hold a joint planning commission and village board zoning code kickoff meeting on the 19th from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., followed by an open house and an online survey as part of a multi‑phase update process.

During public comment Jonathan Robinson urged the commission to reduce permitting barriers for entertainment and event venues like escape rooms, saying such businesses are appropriate downtown and that special‑use requirements impose unnecessary time and cost. "There doesn't need to be an extra 3 months and $3,000 of expense to go through the special permitting process for entertainment and event type venues," Robinson said. Staff agreed the zoning code is being reviewed to be more business friendly and encouraged participation in the kickoff and online survey.
Staff indicated the code update will be an opportunity to streamline requirements and that more engagement opportunities will follow.
