At the start of the March board meeting at George A. Jackson Elementary School, elementary students presented projects from the school's "We Are Makers" curriculum fair.
Dr. Alex Rivera, introduced by the board as the school principal, thanked families and staff and invited student groups onstage. Kindergarten students explained how they used recycled materials to build bridges for a toy bear; first-graders described design work on heritage shops and travel guides; second-graders presented island-design projects; third- and fourth-graders discussed engineering challenges and arcade-game prototypes; fifth-graders described historical research projects on the Inca, Aztecs, and Maya. A third‑grade student, Isabelle, closed the presentation with a short Chinese folk song.
"It was clear how much care, creativity and pride went into showcasing the incredible learning happening every day in our classrooms," Dr. Rivera said, thanking families and central administration for their support. Teachers emphasized that the projects were student-driven, linking creativity to curriculum standards.
The student presentations were followed by a short video the principal said "encapsulates perfectly the education that your children are receiving at Jackson and in the Jericho School District." The board proceeded to regular business after expressing appreciation for the student work and the large parent turnout.
The demonstration illustrated Jericho's emphasis on project-based learning and community engagement; school leaders encouraged families to attend future events such as the district’s multicultural night and SEPTA-sponsored movie night.
