Volunteer warns commissioners of safety and communication failures at Weber County Shooting Complex

Joseph Bauman, a longtime Ogden resident and volunteer at the Weber County Shooting Complex, told county commissioners on April 28 that volunteers have repeatedly been left without adequate equipment and clothing and that management has not responded to emails about safety and supplies. "I got concerned with the lead dust out there, because it's a lehi dust heavy, rich environment, and you know you don't want to get lead poisoning," Bauman said during the public comment period.
Commissioner Jim Harvey acknowledged the complaints and identified Marty Smith, director of Culture, Parks and Recreation, as a county contact in the room. Harvey said some improvements are already scheduled: "They're coming. They've been ordered. New trolleys have been ordered," he said, and asked Bauman to meet with Smith after the meeting to follow up. Commissioners did not take formal action during the meeting but asked staff to connect with the volunteer and the complex manager about equipment, clothing and communication pathways.
