The Village of Michiana council voted unanimously to adopt a paid, QR-code-based parking system for non-residents using HONK Parking Operations. John Cherewko of HONK explained the platform and said the service "would not affect any residents of Michiana as long as they had a parking tag or golf cart sticker on their vehicle." Council set a $10-per-hour rate for non-resident parking, with HONK assessing a 2.9% credit-card transaction fee and charging the Village $50 per month for the service.
Council members discussed event control and customization options; councilors noted the system can be disabled for village events. Tim McCarthy moved to proceed with the HONK implementation and Brian Cassidy seconded; the motion carried unanimously. The council directed staff to work with HONK on signage and QR-code placements and to proceed with the operational setup.
