Council unanimously amends tree ordinance to restrict oak pruning dates

The Village of Michiana Council voted unanimously to amend the Tree Ordinance to limit oak pruning and to require sanitation procedures after pruning. Tree Board liaison Nancy Thill moved the amendment and Brian Cassidy seconded; the council took a roll call vote and the motion passed 5–0.
Nancy Thill read the ordinance language at the meeting: "Trees identified as oak will not be pruned between April 15th and September 15th. In the event where a tree is damaged or needs pruning, tools must be sanitized, and a latex based paint must be applied to the wound immediately after pruning." The council earlier approved a Tree Proposal application for tree services conditioned on review by Village Attorney Sara Senica, and the attorney‑review condition was adopted as part of that motion.
