Police ask residents to help investigate beach tree vandalism near Stop 40

Police Chief Ryan Layman told the Village of Michiana Council that "11 or 12 trees" were cut down on village property near Stop 40 and that the department had sent an alert seeking information. He asked residents to "come forward and inform the police department if they heard or saw anything last Friday early afternoon."
The council asked staff to request an appraisal from the Arborist and to notify the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) and Chikaming Open Lands because the property sits in a Critical Dune and is held in a land trust. No arrests or suspects were reported at the meeting. The council and police encouraged residents to share tips with the department to aid the investigation.
