Douglas County approves Hintermeister aggregate mine with strict operational conditions

The permit passed by unanimous vote and carries 14 conditions the county said are intended to limit environmental, traffic and nuisance impacts.
Key conditions include submitting a detailed operation and reclamation plan (including topsoil maps, proposed vegetation and a timeline), a ban on mining below the water table, construction of a berm at least 250 feet long with a top elevation of 1392 and side slopes no steeper than 3:1, limits on hours of operation and a cap of no more than 100 truck trips per day without amending the permit, and dust-control requirements whenever visible dust leaves the property. The board also restricted processing frequency and required a 911 address before operation.
County staff will monitor compliance with the operation and reclamation plan and other conditions; the permit includes a clause requiring reclamation if mining ceases for more than 300 days.
