Homewood authorizes contingency agreement for fire apparatus antitrust inquiry

The Homewood City Council voted 5–0 to authorize the city manager to sign a contingency agreement with Riley Jackson PC and related counsel to investigate and, if warranted, prosecute claims against fire apparatus manufacturers. City Attorney Keith Jackson described the contract as contingency-based and without upfront cost to the city and said the matter is centralized in the Eastern District of Wisconsin with a large number of jurisdictions expected to participate.
Keith Jackson told the council that, “This is a contingency based, risk free, no cost upfront contract for the city, to have their potential fire apparatus antitrust, litigation claim investigated and prosecuted if the investigation reveals that it should be prosecuted.” He said he expects 800 to 1,000 municipalities nationwide may participate and that 25–30 Alabama municipalities or districts have already joined; the motion passed 5–0 as resolution 26 86.
