Takoma Park holds candidate information session; Board of Elections reviews key deadlines

Matt Link of the Board of Elections walked attendees through the election calendar, saying candidates should note the nominating caucus in mid-September and that "campaign finance registration is the 18th, along with the financial disclosure statement," and that the board will post slides and forms for candidates to download. The board encouraged candidates to file early to avoid corrections and to email elections@takomaparkmd.gov or the clerk with questions.
The Ethics Commission's Patricia Murphy and chair Sid described the commission's role in interpreting the ethics code, handling complaints, and issuing advisory opinions — "to strengthen and guarantee trust in the citizens in the government," Patricia said. Jesse Carpenter reiterated that the required financial disclosure covers calendar year 2025 and should be submitted by the posted deadline; candidates were told printed copies and online forms will be provided.
The session ended with a reminder that the Board of Elections and Ethics Commission are available to assist candidates and that materials from the session will be posted on the city website.
