The team plans two public outreach meetings (one introductory session in May/June and a final presentation in January 2026) and interim reports at the end of each major phase to allow commission feedback.
The consultants emphasized comparing 2025 data to the 2015 study and using volunteer observers and marina interviews to capture observations not visible in aerial counts. Commissioners praised the local team and noted staff will work with the consultants and marine patrol on data collection; the commission said interim reports will be brought to monthly meetings for review.
Next steps: survey questionnaire development, public outreach planning, scheduling of aerial flights (weather‑dependent), and recruitment of volunteer observation scouts. The consultants indicated they will post materials online and provide Zoom options to broaden participation.
