He said the system is operating at about “94% of our speedies permit” during peak outflows and that pressurized outflows and log debris during storms present both known and unknown failure risks. “Without this study, we won't have the data that we need to ensure safe and reliable sewer,” he told commissioners.
The supervisor said the project team selected LaBella’s alternative 3 for a comprehensive study and cited an estimated study cost of $36,000 from a 2024 estimate. Commissioners asked for the study scope; the supervisor agreed to provide the specific scope and offered to return with more detail. Commissioners and staff discussed meeting with DEC and the consultant so the commission can decide whether and how to provide financial assistance at a future meeting.
Next steps: the supervisor asked for the commission to consider funding the study at a future meeting and to allow staff to coordinate a meeting with DEC and LaBella to clarify scope and collaboration before the commission makes a budget decision.
