Council approves ordinance letting planning commission chair vote

The South Ogden City Council on May 6 approved Ordinance 25-06 to amend city code and permit the planning commission chair or vice chair who presides to cast votes on items before the commission. Assistant City Manager Summer Palmer said the change brings South Ogden into alignment with nearby planning commissions and helps ensure residents have representation when attendance is short.
Palmer explained the presiding officer was previously ineligible to vote in South Ogden and that the planning commission had already approved the proposed change. Council asked for a wording correction to ensure the effective dates matched; after adjusting the dates the council moved, seconded and approved the ordinance on a roll-call vote.
Council members said the change would provide "an additional voice" for residents at planning commission meetings when fewer members attend. The ordinance will take effect per the corrected date on the adopted document.
