The board voted 7–0 Sept. 9 to authorize Western Environmental Service to abate asbestos from the old administration building and the old business annex, following testing conducted by TASB that identified areas requiring abatement before construction work begins. The minutes record that Brady Environmental filed the 10‑day notice with the State of Texas; Trustee Donald Willeford moved, “I move that the Board approve Western Environmental Service for the removal of the asbestos, for $43,885.00,” and Trustee Becky Smith seconded the motion.
Board consultant John Erickson (E4) told trustees the asbestos must be abated and properly documented in the district's asbestos records prior to bond construction activities. The approval ensures the district has a named contractor and documentation in place before related bond phases proceed.
