Becky Smith moved to place the superintendent on paid leave; Cari Roberts seconded the motion, which the minutes record as carrying with five yes votes, Donald Willeford opposing and TJ Shafer abstaining.
Shortly after, the board approved the appointment of Carl Key as Interim Superintendent. Becky Smith moved to hire Key and Jerry Cobb seconded; the motion is recorded as carried 6-0. The board also approved an at‑will, temporary athletic coach for the football season (motion carried 7-0). The actions were taken as a result of the meeting’s closed‑session discussions under provisions of the Texas Open Meetings Act for personnel matters.
