EDA reports mixed development signals: leasing uptick, deferred projects and regional outreach

Brandon Turner briefed members that local prospect activity has slowed in line with national trends, while industrial and flex leasing has picked up and several leases were signed. He said major permits pulled in June included two Food Lion renovations and the new Doswell Fire Station, and that staff conducted 15 business visits during the month, including a business walk in Ashland in partnership with the town's economic development coordinator.
Turner said Kings Dominion continues to receive interest and that offers on ancillary property are moving slowly, the Tysons property owner met with the county to discuss development ideas, and the East Ashland/Iron Horse project was deferred to the August Planning Commission. Turner also reported attending the Bio International Convention in San Diego and holding more than 25 meetings to discuss regional projects and expansions.
