New Deal ISD honors students and teachers for spelling win, fundraisers and regional teaching award

The New Deal Independent School District Board of Trustees opened its March 9 meeting by recognizing student and staff achievements. The board honored Thomas Brazile, a fifth grader, as the district's first-ever spelling bee winner and noted he placed among the top 10 at the Lubbock-area regional spelling bee. Trustees also heard that the UMC Children’s Miracle Network and the South Plains Food Bank "U Can" drive each raised more than $2,000, and that the school community raised $725 for a local family in need.
Board members also congratulated Mrs. Lewis on being named a recipient of the Helen L. Medley award for top mathematics teacher in the region. The recognitions were presented during the student recognition portion of the agenda; no board votes were required. The acknowledgments were read into the record during the opening agenda item (SEG 001).
