City staff introduced an ordinance amending Chapter 78, Section 40 of the city code to stop offering retiree life insurance to future retirees effective Sept. 1, 2026. A staff member said the change follows earlier contract revisions and that the city currently has 31 participants who will be grandfathered; anyone who retires before Sept. 1, 2026, will remain eligible under the plan terms.
Staff explained the benefit had become expensive to self‑fund for both participants and the city. Commissioners had no questions and acknowledged the item has been discussed previously during contract negotiations; the measure was introduced and will be considered in a future meeting.
